What is done, and what is ahead

What has been finished and paid for, what is underway now, and what is left for the new owners to choose.

"Blank canvas" gets used loosely. In this case it means the hard, dirty, unglamorous half is finished and paid for, and the half that is a matter of taste is not started. Everything in the first section is visible in the photographs further down.

Done

  • Hull stripped, filled, faired and primed, inside and out
  • Bottom antifouled
  • Interior ground back, epoxy sealed and painted out
  • Engine beds and stringers rebuilt, glassed and painted
  • Transom reinforced
  • New 1 3/4 in shafts, machined and tapered to suit the props, four new cutless bearings
  • Original bronze stuffing boxes, shaft glands and rudder logs retained, all repacked with graphite PTFE waterless gland packing
  • Michigan Dyna-Jet 21 x 21 props fitted, handed pair, bored 1 3/4 in to the shafts
  • Rudders rehung, hydraulic ram and tie bar installed
  • Walter V-drives rebuilt on their original 1.56 gearsets, installed and coupled
  • Borg Warner 71C gearboxes rebuilt
  • Helm console built and glassed
  • Sole hatches framed with marine ply covers
  • Stainless fuel tanks (approx. 460 L total) and water tanks in
  • Fuel lines (SAE J1527), sanitation hose, 110 L waste tank, 3500 GPH auto bilge pump
  • Original teak gunwale stripped back and finished in UV-stable clear
  • Bow push-bar fittings ground off and faired, lifting points repaired
  • New anodes fitted to all four exhaust manifolds and both heat exchangers
  • Both engines test run
  • Hull identification recoded, registration current

In hand

Underway now. Every part is bought and on the shelf.

  • Engine mounts fabricated
  • Both engines craned in, aligned and coupled to the V-drives
  • Exhaust system fabricated and run
  • Fuel and cooling plumbed in
  • SeaStar twin-lever throttle and gear controls fitted and connected
  • Batteries, charging, wiring loom and switch panel
  • Toilet, shower and water heater
  • Electronics and nav
  • Anchor winch, chain and bow roller

At the end of it she is watertight, she drives and she steers, and she can be delivered on her own bottom.

Finished by Doug and me

  • Interior fitout, joinery and upholstery, all of it
  • Hardtop cut in, bonded and finished
  • Final topcoat. The colour palette is chosen but not sprayed

If you want them

None of these are planned, and none are needed to run her. Any of them would be a decision for the syndicate.

  • Rub rail. You can see the original in the 2023 photograph below. It came off because the rubber had perished, and the teak gunwale underneath has been restored, so refitting one is a choice rather than a repair
  • Swim platform
  • Bow thruster. The tunnel is not cut
  • Solar
  • More range. The second water tank is the same stainless fabrication and could be plumbed as fuel instead, taking her to roughly 690 L aboard. It is only there for freshwater flushing, and on a berth with dockside water you would not miss it
