Annual maintenance

Where the running costs figure comes from: mooring, haul-out, antifoul, insurance, registration and servicing.

The running costs quoted elsewhere — approx. $1,000 a year per share — are not a guess. Here is the breakdown, for the whole boat and per share.

Swing mooring$900
Annual haul-out$1,200
Antifoul (paint and prep)$1,800
Insurance$2,200
Registration (NSW)$350
Engine servicing$1,500
Total, whole boat$7,950 a year
Per share (÷8)approx. $994 a year

Notes on the numbers

  • Swing mooring, registration and engine servicing are real, quoted figures.
  • Haul-out, antifoul and insurance are mid-range estimates for a boat of this size and type in Sydney, pending actual quotes from a slipway and a marine insurer.
  • Antifoul assumes doing the prep and rolling ourselves, which is consistent with how the rest of the rebuild has gone. A fully contracted haul-out-to-splash antifoul job would push that line toward $3,000–$3,500.
  • Insurance scales with the agreed hull value. A custom ex-Navy classic with twin petrol V8s may sit toward the higher end of a standard marine policy, which is reflected here.
  • This budget does not include the cost of finishing her — the fitout, hardtop and topcoat are being paid for separately, not by the syndicate.
